Should You Buy Electronic Arts Games for the Mac?

Back in June, Steve Jobs took the stage at WWDC 2007 along with Bing Gordon (an executive from Electronic Arts). The two execs promised a number of brand new EA games for the Mac platform. Shortly after I wrote a column asking if Apple had, in fact, lied to Mac gamers by not answering some questions about the viability of Cider and EA’s real commitment to the Mac platform.

Well, lo and behold, Electronic Arts has failed to deliver what they promised back in June. So who lied? Apple or EA? It appears that it might not have been Apple after all…read on for more details.

The following titles were supposed to ship this summer:

* Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
* Need for Speed Carbon
* Battlefield 2142
* Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
* Madden NFL 08
* Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08

Well, some of them are apparently being pushed back until the Fall, and a spokesman for EA claims that some are already in the stores. But nobody, including EA, can seem to find a store where any of these games are available for the Mac. Um…what’s wrong with this picture? Shouldn’t EA actually…you know…have some idea if they’ve actually released a product or not? Most companies would…er…keep track of minor details like that but not EA apparently.
