John McCain: Too Old To Be President?

My boss Lance recently wrote a column excoriating republican nominee John McCain for being too far behind the technology curve to be president. I respect Lance’s opinions, but I disagree with his conclusion that McCain’s lack of technology use disqualifies him to be president. John McCain isn’t too old at all and his technology experience isn’t something that voters should hold against him.

Just where is John McCain when it comes to technology issues? Well…er…he’s a little bit late out of the starting gate, but he’s trying and that’s all that matters in the end. First impressions tend to be lasting ones and in that sense McCain has some catching up to do in his personal use for sure.

However, his personal use of technology doesn’t matter nearly as much as his policy stands on technology issues, and it’s here that people really need to start paying attention. Here’s a link to McCain’s technology page. There’s quite a bit of interesting information about a variety of technology related topics.

Although he’s a presidential candidate, I think somebody needs to rewrite that page for him. It’s got way too much pseudo-impressive technology related blather on it instead of a simple, effective bullet point list. I had to wade through all of this to get to an even more interesting page that covered “personal security and privacy in the digital age.”
