Why Google’s Chrome Browser Sucks

Google’s new browser “Chrome” got a lot of press last week. The technology presstitutes were falling all over themselves, drooling and blabbing on and on about how great Google’s browser is and how it was a missile aimed at Microsoft, etc., etc. Well I’m not very excited about it all for a number reasons and it’s clear that Google has screwed up royally in some ways with this browser.

Note that I’m not going to review Chrome here or even delve into its feature set. For that you can check out ET editor Jason Cross’ excellent column or PCMag’s review of the Chrome beta. For my part I’m interested in whether or not Chrome should even have been made in the first place and that’s what I’ll cover in this column.

Chrome apparently is supposed to be yet another new platform—from the Google perspective of course—designed to make our online lives oh-so-much-easier and better.

Why do I feel like Google is trying to sell me some kind of new and improved soap? Or dish detergent? Or make me cooler by getting me to buy cigarettes or something? Oh wait, I know—because most of the time when companies are trying to sell you those kinds of products they’re BS-ing you so you drop your guard long enough to buy into their baloney.
